Teenager set for motorsport history

Welsh teenager Cameron Davies is set to become the youngest works-backed rally driver in motorsport history after receiving the support of Chevrolet.

The 16-year-oldFormula 1000 Junior rally champion will drive a Chevrolet-sponsored Spark as he attempts to defend his title this season.

Cameron said: "I'm absolutely bowled over by the fact I've got manufacturer support. It hasn't really sunk in yet. I just can't wait to drive it properly."

Rally specialists XS Racing have prepared the Spark for the race and Cameron will give the car its first real test at Caerwent near Newport on June 24.

But before he does that the teenager from Llandovery, Carmarthenshire has another challenge to complete - his GSCEs.

A year 11 student at Ysgol Pantycelyn, Llandovery, Cameron had to get ready for his Maths exam soon after his new car was unveiled at the British Touring Car Championship round at Oulton Park, Cheshire.

After his GCSEs, Cameron wants to do an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence - focusing on developing his rally career.
