Santa stopped in anti-crime drive

Kent Police have stopped a driver dressed as Santa as part of their crackdown on crime over Christmas.

The officers pulled over the man on Tuesday during a road check in Aylesford, Kent.

He was informed that the lights on his van were defective and needed to be fixed within 14 days.

The tougher stance is part of the force's Operation Whirlwind aiming to highlight road safety and remove criminals from the streets.

So far officers involved in the initiative have made 12 arrests and confiscated a motorbike, knuckle-duster, drugs, cash and perfume.

Anyone who needs to update their car insurance or other driving essentials in the area would be wise to do so before they are caught.

And deputy chief constable Alan Pughsley said the action is "just the start".

He said: "My officers will be targeting crime today, tonight, tomorrow and every day. There will be no safe havens for criminals in Kent."
