RAC launches online next-day tyre fitting service
The RAC has launched an invaluable online tyre and next-day fitting service, and encourages all drivers to make regular checks on the state of their tyres for the safety of all roads users.

Millions of UK drivers risk fines, penalty points and accidents every day by setting out with at least one illegal tyre.

Industry figures suggest the cars of over a quarter of motorists (27.3%) fail to run tyres with the legal minimum 1.6mm tread – risking three points for each tyre and fines of up to £2,500 – while many are underinflated and waste unnecessary fuel.

WATCH NOW: How to Check Your Tyres

Competitively priced and featuring quality tyres from the top manufacturers, including Michelin, Pirelli and Goodyear, the new RAC Tyres service is supplied via a trusted network of 2,500 local fitters.

It could hardly be easier to use. Driver simply enter their vehicle registration number and postcode, then select from the broad range of tyre options. Information includes European tyre performance label rating, plus impact on fuel economy.

There is also handy information given on things such as level of road noise and required stopping distance in wet conditions.

This is particularly pertinent given that back in July road safety experts from both Brake and the RAC branded the Highway Code advice on stopping distances to be ‘woefully short’.

Payment is made securely online and prices include VAT, delivery next-day fitting plus the environmentally-friendly disposal of old tyres.

IN OTHER NEWS: Motorways ‘remain a mystery’ for many drivers

If looked after correctly, the average car tyre should last for 12,000 to 15,000 miles before it needs replacing.

The RAC advises drivers to check their tyres’ tread and pressures at least once a fortnight to keep them in tip-top condition.

Punctures are one of the most common breakdowns experienced by UK motorists with the RAC alone attending 344,000 call-outs for this issue every year – that’s the equivalent of 940 RAC members suffering punctures every day.

Claire Rose of RAC Tyres said: “Knowing how important choosing the right tyres is we have developed a straightforward, yet comprehensive online solution to help motorists find the best ones for their car all with a simple next-day booking process.”

RAC patrol of the year Chris Burgess said: “It is very important to check the tread and pressure of your vehicle’s tyres on a regular basis as both are critical to safe driving: in fact it could quite literally save yours or someone else’s life.”
