Porsche trials 2nd gen long stayer

A German marque carmaker has started trialling the successor to its 919 Hybrid in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital.

Last year's model, which saw Porsche's return to the World Endurance Championship's (WEC) upper echelons, won itself a reputation as a long stayer.

The company hopes the new Le Mans upgrade version will build on this following tests at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

British WEC fans could see the durable car during its first official race outing if they set their journey planners to Northamptonshire's Silverstone circuit during April 12 for the event opener.

The UAE trials follow the 919 Hybrid's first roll-out at Porsche's German test track in Weissach, outside Stuttgart, last month.

The new Hybrid again uses the 2014 version's groundbreaking drivetrain concept. This comprises a V4 turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine augmented by a front wheel-powering electric motor as well as a pair of energy recovery networks.
