The brakes will be placed on car criminals in a major police operation in Newcastle.
Following a spate of thefts from and damage to cars the operation was launched in South Heaton.
The suspected perpetrators are anti-social youths and late-night drunken relatives who will be targeted by the police operation which will see high profile uniform and plan clothes patrols during the day and overnight.
The increased activity is in response to thefts from cars, including satnavs and mobile phones left on display, as well as reports of damage being caused later at night and early in the morning.
Sergeant Graeme Homewood said: "We've had a number of reports of damage to and thefts from cars in South Heaton and in response we've put together an operation to combat the issue.
"It includes additional patrols at the key times we know the damage and thefts are happening. This seems to be a combination of anti-social behaviour in the afternoons and late at night and drunken disorder during the early hours of the morning.
"This behaviour is mindless and causes a financial strain and great stress to the vehicle owners."
