New website gives traffic data

Drivers can avoid road congestion and plan their journey better with the help of a new website that offers real-time information on traffic conditions.

The developers say the site collects information through traffic cameras and puts out live feeds which users can access to see if a traffic jam is building up along their route.

Users can find data about major roads as well as other usually busy locations such as town centres and visitor attractions.

View Traffic, which is based in the north west of England, says it is steadily adding more cameras to increase its coverage of the UK road network.

By making informed decisions on ways to avoid congestion, drivers can save money and time as well as reduce carbon emissions, the site said.

Initial trials of the project were carried out around London with the assistance of the BBC, which allowed View Traffic access to its cameras.
