Man rescues woman from burning car

A man suffered burns when he went to the rescue of a woman whose car burst into flames after crashing into trees in Bedfordshire.

The man ran to the scene and pulled the trapped woman from the burning car after he witnessed the crash near the Globe pub in Old Linslade Road in Leighton Buzzard.

The East of England Ambulance Service said the man, who suffered burns to his hands during the rescue, is in line for a commendation for his bravery.

The woman was taken to hospital in Milton Keynes, where she is in a critical condition.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "A man who was walking near the scene at the time of the collision ran to her aid.

"When he approached the car, he found the woman in a serious condition.

"Without hesitation and the dangers in front of him, he was able to pull her to a place of safety and alert the emergency services.

"The man has no doubt contributed to the woman's rapid treatment. He totally ignored his own safety to save her."
