Owners of luxury cars such as Ferraris and Mercedes-Benzes are more likely to splash out on a personalised number plate than drivers of other vehicles, according to a survey.
The survey by elephant.co.uk also found that motorists in Scotland are most likely to opt for a personalised registration, with eight of the top 20 postcode districts where personalised plates are the most popular being Scottish.
The villages of Fintry, Kilearn and Strathblane in Stirlingshire topped the table, where 14.02% of motorists have personalised plates.
A total of 11.98% of motorists have special plates in Anlaby and Kirk Ella near Hull, placing them second in the poll, while third is Llangefni in Anglesey, Wales, with a figure of 11.88%.
However, drivers living in the Grimsby Docks area are least likely to have a personalised number plate.
Brian Martin, managing director of elephant.co.uk, said: "Personalised number plates have definitely become more popular since the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency made them easier to locate and buy. Some people see them as a status symbol and a way to express your individuality; we wanted to see who exactly owns them."
