Hunt for hire car missing in sea

A hire car has turned up on a beach after it went missing in the sea at Swansea.

The Vauxhall Corsa was initially parked on a slipway near Knab Rock in Mumbles but was later found bobbing up and down off Mumbles Pier.

Such incidents act as a reminder to motorists to be prepared for the unexpected and ensure they have taken out car insurance and breakdown cover.

The silver 61-plate car disappeared at around 5.40pm on Monday and although coastguard crews hoped to recover it early the next day, they had to broadcast an alert asking boats to look out for the missing car.

Coastguards announced on Tuesday afternoon that the car was recovered from a nearby beach.

Nobody had been in the vehicle when it became submerged.
