The Royal Automobile Club has released an early entry list for its 2011 Brighton to London RAC Future Car Challenge.
First entries for this year's low-energy driving challenge include electric sports cars such as the Radical SRZero, Tesla Roadster, Delta E4 Coupe, Vortex Coupe and Vince Nemesis.
The Tesla Roadster, which is well-known for being the first production electric sports car, and the British-built Vince benefit from a lightweight structure - allowing each of them to achieve incredible speeds.
The Delta E4 Electric Coupe is also being touted as a strong contender in the race with its high-tech carbon fibre design and impressive electric power performance.
Triple Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, who is supporting the event, said: "The motor vehicle in modern times has enjoyed continuous development and abuse of energy however has become unacceptable to many.
"To encourage better use of this great currency I congratulate the Royal Automobile Club in their initiative to promote new ways of achieving results for the motorised community."
The 2011 RAC Future Car Challenge is scheduled to take place on November 5.
