Duke of York hails new Silverstone

The Duke of York has been taken on a high-speed thrash around the Silverstone race track by former world champion F1 driver Damon Hill.

At the circuit to unveil the first phase of a new £40 million track layout, the Prince was given an exhilarating taste of the Northamptonshire venue after cutting the ribbon and officially unveiling a new plaque.

Donning a race suit and boots, he was taken on four-lap tour of the circuit, which features a new inner section of six corners designed for overtaking.

"It was quite an extraordinary experience," Andrew said.

"I liken it to probably being sat in the back seat of a Tornado at low level over the Scottish highlands.

"It is that sort of experience because you are being thrown about in the back, and you're relying on somebody else to do the driving.

"In that sense, I'm an aviator and I've experienced that sort of thing, but this was a completely different sensation.

"I understand why drivers lose so much weight during a race when they drive around a circuit 65 times."
