Drivers warned of wet week ahead

Drivers taking their youngsters back to school following the summer holidays have been warned that autumn will begin with wet and windy conditions.

Motorists may wish to check that their car insurance is fully up to date as summer draws to a close, with the Met Office suggesting that strong winds, thunder and lightning could all be seen in the week ahead, along with heavy rain.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, forecaster Tom Morgan said the Met Office is thinking about issuing a severe weather warning.

He stated: "I think at the moment we are considering weather warnings. It depends on how we see things panning out, but there is certainly a chance."

Northern regions of the country and the North Midlands could face a greater risk of thunder and hail, the Met Office said, while most areas are likely to experience rainfall.
