Drink drive charge for footballer

Sunderland striker Stephane Sessegnon has been charged with drink driving after he was pulled over by police on Tuesday evening.

The 29-year-old was arrested while his team mates played in Capital One Cup tie against MK Dons at the Stadium of Light.

Sessegnon was stopped by Northumbria Police on Westgate Road, Newcastle, at 7.51pm, around the time the Black Cats went a goal down to the League One side.

A police spokesman revealed that the Benin international has been charged with drink driving following the incident.

He is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on October 4.

Drivers found guilty of drink driving face the prospect of a heavy fine, a driving ban, and possible imprisonment.

They can also expect any future car insurance premiums to be a lot more expensive.

Sunderland went on to win the match 4-2 thanks to goals from Jozy Altidore, Connor Wickham and Adam Johnson.
