Car owners raise £11,600 for Halow

Surrey-based charity The Halow Project is to be donated £11,600, raised as part of The Elise Garden Party, an annual fundraising event.

The event, held at the British Racing Drivers' Club at Silverstone with former F1 World Champion Damon Hill as the after-dinner speaker, attracted dozens of Lotus owners.

Autographed paintings, photos, books and other items given by, featuring or signed by Hill, Lewis Hamilton, Alan Henry, Jim Clark, David Coulthard and artists Gillian Tapsell, Dexter Brown and Colin Carter were among the things that went under the hammer at the event.

Hill is patron and a founder member of The Halow Project, which is dedicated to creating opportunities and helping young people in the 16-35 age group with a learning disability to live an independent life and become integrated into their local community.

Event organiser Michael Hipperson said: "From a small gathering in 2002 to this year's event which attracted more than 150 people, renowned journalist and author Alan Henry as compere, the original "Stig" Perry McCarthy as auctioneer, after-dinner speaker Damon Hill and a wonderful array of auction items."
