Car firms urged to support staff

A new conference has been launched to help automotive businesses retain and nurture their employees.

The People Conference, which will take place later this year, is the brainchild of Automotive Management and the Institute of the Motor Industry.

Jeremy Bennett, editor of the magazine, and Steve Nash, chief executive of the institute, will jointly host the event, which aims to offer an insight into how the automotive sector is responding to the skills gap.

The duo will speak about the need to maintain a workforce that is competent and has up-to-date skills in order to ensure the sector continues to play a significant and influential role in the UK economy.

Chris Roberts, retail network development director at Vauxhall, is also on the guest list to offer his words of wisdom.

He will provide an insight into how the brand identifies training and skills gaps as well as supports dealers to retain the best employees through its GM Academy.
