Bond fans flock to bid for Lotus

The iconic submarine car from the movie The Spy Who Loved Me is up for auction, with seriously cash-loaded James Bond fans expected to head the queue of bidders.

An auction price of between £650,000 to £950,000 has been predicted for the Lotus Esprit, which has never been offered for sale before, and may also cost a tidy sum in car insurance .

RM Auctions in Battersea, south London will put the distinctive-looking vehicle under the hammer, with managing director, Max Girardo claiming it has a great track record in selling "incredible and iconic" movie cars.

He considers the Lotus as up there among the most famous cars of all time.

The car is still fully operational and was designed specifically for the underwater scene in the 1977 film, which starred Roger Moore as 007.

Mr Girardo also added: "Over the years, millions of movie-goers have stared in awe as the Lotus transformed itself into a submarine, and now, perhaps one of them will have an opportunity to own it. Her Majesty's Secret Service aside, it surely is the ultimate beach accessory."
