Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how best to insure a car (for it to sit on the street or in the drive legally) if i buy one before passing my test -- I am stumped!

If I do go ahead and buy a car, can I take out learner driver insurance myself as the registered owner of the car ... Or can I only take this out if the car is already insured for a person with a full drivers licence?

No reason why you can't insure a car while you are a learner. You may be surprised to find that once you pass, the premiums will go up.

It will be cheaper to insure in your name as a learner if you add a couple of mature adult drivers on the policy. That’s what we did with our kids cars. It will go up when you pass though because you’ll have no experienced driver sitting next to you.
