RAC Cars Need To Know:

Marcos is a seriously small British car company who have always produced niche sports cars for enthusiasts who prefer exclusivity over mainstream, innovative technological advancement in a car. You may not have ever heard of them, but Marcos has always been a fairly respective marque in the British car industry, thanks to decades of production, powerful cars and loyal consumers.

Their most memorable car has to be the Marcos TSO. This remains Marcos’s most recent attempt at a production car and, thanks to a feature on Top Gear, is probably the company’s most successful model with regards to brand awareness.

The TSO was powered by a big Chevrolet V8, which was meaty enough to worry its more established rivals. The body-shell was as nostalgic as you can get, but made with modern materials, so it worked on all levels. The TSO is still a very good looking car; just don’t expect supreme reliability or people knowing what it is!

2007 was the year went into voluntary liquidation due to lack of sales and poor profits, but while the brand may be dead, its legacy remains. Sure, Marcos were no Lotus, but they did produce some brilliantly British sport cars which continue to thrill drivers up and down the country.

The company enjoyed some success in motorsport with Le Mans cars and GT-class racers, so even though Marcos never became a huge seller of road cars, it does remain a memorable name in the motorsport circuit.
