Used Chrysler Sebring

The Sebring was a part of Chrysler's stable for sixteen years but it wasn't the most successful model ever to emerge from this famous factory. There were three generations of the car including a coupe, a standard convertible and one very special and extremely rare left hand drive convertible.

The History

The Chrysler Sebring enjoyed its initial launch back in 1994 and it was originally classed as a mid-size, four door saloon. The second generation of Sebrings were subsequently introduced in 2001 and this was the time that they made their way onto the UK market.

This was an impressive car and as a luxury vehicle would have surely made some considerable impact on the executive end of sales but as a family saloon, it was just a little too thirsty. The used Sebring range started with a powerful enough 2.4 litre engine but rose to a 2.7 litre model and at a time when diesel production vehicles started to make sufficient dents in the market, it just didn't make it off the showroom forecourts in great numbers.

This is a great pity because it's a dynamic car which out-performs virtually everything else in its class. Meanwhile, sales around the world were steady and that's why the Chrysler Sebring had such a relatively long shelf life.

What you get for your money

The range of equipment offered as standard is really quite impressive and even on the base used Chrysler Sebring models you can expect air conditioning, leather trim, power steering, cruise control and much more.

It's spacious enough within its class and can comfortably provide enough seating for a family of five or alternatively for four adults. Overall it is a bulky model and this is underlined by the fact that it has the largest boot of any car in its class.

What you can expect to pay

Second hand Chrysler Sebring cars for sale are quite scarce these days but its relative lack of interest balances out that rarity to keep prices under control. For a used 2.4 engine on the early 02 plate, you can expect to part with as little as £5000. From that point, prices escalate to over the £10k mark for newer, low mileage models.

What to look out for

Mechanically, the used Chrysler Sebring is quite sound but there are a great deal of electronic functions that need to be checked. Elsewhere, the colour trim is a little pale and prone to fading.

As with any used car, the service history should be checked and it's well worth considering an independent inspection.

Replacement Parts

Parts are easy to track down but some of them can be very expensive. For example, a new clutch assembly could set you back as much as £345.00 with a new starter motor coming in at around the £275.00 mark.

How it drives

This really is a cruiser as opposed to the power vehicle that some might expect. At higher speeds it struggles to provide the acceleration you need for that responsive ride but if you're in no particular hurry, switch on the cruise control and just enjoy some supreme comfort.
