New BMW X3

New BMW X3

Description

New BMW X3

The new X3 is a carefully tweaked version of BMW’s brilliant 4x4, with great engines and a high level of comfort.

Appearance

The X3 has a bulky, rugged appearance that befits it an SUV, with roof rails and plastic cladding emphasising its capabilities. Circular headlights and the recognisable BMW grille also sit at the front of the car. The interior is well thought-out, with a slick wraparound dashboard and a fantastic finish comprised of high-quality materials, whilst the soft touch plastics make operating the X3’s iDrive console a pleasure. The space inside the cabin itself is more than sufficient; passengers should feel comfortable on most journeys, whilst the boot has 550 litres of stowage for luggage (or a massive 1600 with the seats folded down).

Performance

The choice of diesel engines that the X3 comes with span a range of uses for any possible driver. The 18d is handy for minimising running costs, whilst the 35d is rapid off the mark, taking just over 5 seconds to achieve a 62mph sprint. The 6-speed manual gearbox that comes with the X3 can also be upgraded to a slick eight-speed automatic, which makes seamless gear changes. The X3’s other strengths lie with its nicely weighted steering - combined with the grip on offer, body movement is minimal and steering is responsive. With plenty of default kit included, the X3 is a generous offering. Heated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, DAB radio, parking sensors and automatic lights all form part of the core spec. M Sport models are mostly aesthetic additions, with a more muscular bodykit and bigger alloys.

Safety & Economy

BMW do have a consistent reputation for reliability, which is apparent in the X3 with side & curtain airbags, stability control and tyre pressure monitoring, whilst additional safety measures (such as adaptive cruise control) are available are as paid options. The 18d model can claim up to 60mpg, with an emission band that drives company costs down.

Conclusion

Perfect for Small Families and Fleets The X3 comes in at a reasonable price, and offers decent resale values and efficient engines. Regardless of the model, the X3 offers great practicality, solid driving mechanics and classic BMW style, and will suit most drivers.
