History of BMW

BMW originally began its journey by manufacturing motorcycles, following a merger with another company, who had just been bought by Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFw). Their expertise greatly improved the quality and efficiency of BFw’s motorcycle manufacturing. BMW themselves then purchased a company called Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach and moved onto producing cars, expanding on the ‘Austin Seven’ models Fahrzeugfabrik were already making. In 1936, BMW began to develop the 328 sports car. Along with automobiles, BMW focused on motorcycles and aircraft engines, up until the start of World War II. In 1948, BMW began to make pre-war vehicles again, forced initially by Soviet rule. After 1955, they began to concentrate on cars specifically; however, profit margins were slim. On the verge of being bought out, BMW were saved by an industrialist named Herbert Quandt. His subsequent investments led to BMW’s development of two new products, enabling them to prosper and expand into the future.
