Got a question about Telematics?
The RAC is staging a live webinar on 28th June at 12.30pm to give you the opportunity to put any questions you may have about telematics to one of the industry’s leading experts.
RAC Telematics managing director Nick Walker has worked in the mobile communications and telematics sector for the best part of 30 years. He spent many years heading up operations in the USA and Europe for leading telematics players, before coming to the RAC in 2015 to develop our own system and make it the award-winning solution it is today.
Telematics is a fast growing technology with increasingly more businesses installing the devices every year, however our own research shows that a lot of businesses feel it is little more than a tracking device. Smaller businesses in particular tell us they don’t see the need for the devices in their vehicles as they don’t think many of the benefits would apply to a smaller fleet of vehicles. All of this is why we are now giving you the opportunity to find out how telematics can support and improve your business operations, whatever the size or the sector you operate in.
We also want to bust a few myths that surround telematics technology, such as the cost, the disruption of installation, handling the data generated by the system and how to overcome issues such as driver privacy:
On cost: the operational efficiencies and savings can more than make up for the cost. You can potentially increase jobs per day, eliminate false miles, and improve the accuracy of timesheets. The RAC has developed one of the most reasonably-priced solutions on the market to help you get your return on investment (ROI) as quickly as possible.
On installation: installation is a simple process and scalable from small businesses to large, diverse fleets. A small box is mounted inside the vehicle underneath the dashboard, which sends data back to allow fleet managers to track vehicle activity. Managers can then monitor the vehicles location and speed, the motorists driving style and time-keeping, and receive instant notification of accidents to their laptop or mobile phone, so you can be in control 24/7 365 days a year.
On privacy/driver buy-in: telematics tracking offer benefits for drivers too, proving that they’ve delivered on time and reducing their paperwork, as well as helping with vehicle maintenance and route-finding. In January 2016 we launched the RAC MyDrive Bluetooth fob, which is a simple device that enables drivers to switch the system from business driving to private. This is particularly important for car pools where drivers switch between vehicles as the fob is driver specific, and for the so-called ‘grey fleet’ drivers, where people use their own car for work purposes.
