Driving assessments
If you’re returning to motoring after having become disabled, you may need help in assessing your abilities and requirements for adaptations to any vehicle you drive.
Or maybe you’re about to take the leap and start learning to drive for the first time, or buy a car. If so, you should first check out what you need to do. E.g. What sort of adaptations might your car need? Will you need any special training?
A network of regional Assessment Centres, overseen by the Forum of Mobility Centres, offers advice and help on these and other matters.
The services they provide include:
Driving tuition for novice drivers, courses for those coming back to driving after a break and for those driving adapted cars for the first time.
Advice for older drivers on their ability to still drive safely.
Adapting cars for disabled drivers and passengers.
Advice on wheelchairs and scooters.
Accommodation for people attending assessments and driving courses.
