RAC offer a quiz to determine your driver type

1 - Whilst driving on a residential road, a van pulls out in front you without indicating. Do you

a) Slam on your brakes and shake your head in disbelief

b) Use the distance already between you and the traffic in front to pull back from the van

c) Hoot your horn, flash your lights and tailgate the intruder for the next mile

d) Gesture at the driver and complain loudly about his or her selfishness

e) Become flustered and accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake

2 - You're in a slow moving queue of traffic on the main road. A queue of cars is waiting to join the traffic from a side road. Do you

a) Check in your wing mirror that there are no cyclists travelling up the inside of the road before letting two or three cars join the main road - it won't make any difference to your journey time

b) Avoid eye-contact with the driver at the top of the side-road queue and speed up to keep pace with the main road traffic - he'll have to rely on someone else to let him out

c) Glare at the driver at the top of the side-road queue and move your car up to the bumper of the one in front - no-one's getting in front of you!

d) Turn round to stop the children squabbling, unintentionally leaving a space for the driver to nip into

e) Sit helplessly while the entire queue of cars filters out in front of you, much to the annoyance of drivers behind you

3 - You are driving on the motorway and come up behind a car driving in the middle lane when the slow lane is clear. Do you

a) Check the outside lane is clear and overtake the middle lane driver safely

b) Sit exasperated behind the driver waiting for him to pull over before overtaking aggressively

c) Tailgate the driver while flashing your lights and hooting, then overtake and pull back in front of him sharply

d) Stay a safe distance back flashing your lights until he gets the message

e) Do nothing. You're quite happy to be in the middle lane anyway

4 - When driving on the motorway you tend to

a) Drive in the outside lane most of the way, undertaking anyone in front of you. You disregard the weather and traffic conditions

b) Drive in the lane that you think is appropriate to your speed and the behaviour of the rest of the traffic

c) Take constant phone calls on your mobile and deal with the crisis back at the office

d) Drive forcefully, complaining at the behaviour of other motorists. You might have a "near miss" incident once in a while

e) Actually you avoid taking the motorway at all costs - it's far too frightening

5 - You're waiting at a pedestrian crossing which is very busy - just as one wave of people finish crossing, another batch start to cross. Do you

a) Thread your car through a gap in the groups of pedestrians so you can get on your way

b) Allow everyone on the crossing to walk at their own speed to the other side

c) Wait until the crossing is clear but sigh loudly and roll your eyes at all the slowcoaches

d) Sit in your own dream-world until a hoot from behind alerts you that road is clear

e) Gaze in pity at those not fortunate enough to be sitting in the air-conditioned comfort and privacy of their own luxury car

6 - You're looking for a parking space in the town centre and spot one that requires you to parallel park. Do you

a) Draw up parallel to the car in front of the space and smoothly reverse into the available space

b) Misjudge the distance and finally park after several tense minutes making tiny manoeuvres in and out of the space

c) Ignore the space in favour of the nearest double yellow lines

d) Drive in forwards and spend the next 10 minutes trying to get your car off the kerb

e) Drive to a more easily accessible space in what you hope will be a safe area to leave the car

7 - Coming up behind a cyclist on the main road, you

a) Give the cyclist a car's-width space whilst passing smoothly; you make sure you're well past before pulling back in

b) Pass quickly with just enough room not to clip the cyclist with your wing mirror

c) Hover behind the cyclist nervously trying to pluck up courage to pull out and pass

d) You don't slow down for anyone so roar past the cyclist creating a draught strong enough to set the bike wobbling

e) Ah bicycles. you remember those from your childhood. You're so busy reminiscing that you miss your turning

8 - You find yourself on a quiet country road that you know well. Do you

a) Take the car up to 60mph and enjoy the drive

b) Potter gently along looking for a good place to pull over and stretch your legs

c) Put your foot to the floor and the car in the middle of the road. The countryside gets to enjoy your music too

d) Breathe a sigh of relief to be away from all the traffic. You just hope there won't be any cows in the road ahead

e) Wish you could appreciate the scenery but you're too busy attending to a carsick child in the back

9 - You're out with friends or family and you're driving. Which option best describes your behaviour?

a) You're even more careful than usual - you've got responsibility for your passengers too

b) You drive in a daring and reckless manner to show your mates you're a great driver and in control

c) You loudly badmouth all the other drivers and their hopeless motoring skills to your passengers

d) You're pleased to have moral support in the car but wish your passengers would stop giving you advice on how to drive

e) You keep a nervous eye on whether they're damaging the interior or putting sticky fingerprints on the leather seats

10 - Your car's due for a service. Do you

a) Book the car into a trusted garage immediately

b) Remain oblivious - the company sorts all that out for you

c) Ignore the situation and hope that someone else will book the car in for you

d) Take it down to a garage run by a mate - you get it serviced and get a new spoiler added at the same time
