RAC home insurance assumptions
To save you time we base your quote on some assumptions, please confirm you meet these criteria
- Your home is your permanent residence, is furnished by you, and is in Great Britain, Isle of Man or Channel Islands
- You do not let or sub-let your home to any other person, and you do not have any lodgers - if you do please call us on 0800 051 4070 for Buildings cover
- You do not share your home with anybody other than your family or partner
- You do not require buildings cover for a maisonette or mobile home.
- You do not use your home for any business purposes or for the storage of business goods
- You or your partner do not have one of the following occupations: actor/actress on film, stage, TV or radio (including presenters), professional sportsman or sportswoman (including trainers), jeweller or antique dealer or anyone connected with the entertainment industry
- No person living at your home has had any criminal convictions, been previously refused insurance or had any terms imposed
- Any one of your valuables does not exceed £2,500 in value. Valuables include stamp, coin or medal collections, antiques (not including furniture), pictures, other works of art, articles of gold, silver or other precious metals, jewellery , watches or furs
- Your Buildings sum insured does not exceed £500,000
- Your home is not left unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days
- Your home has fewer than 6 bedrooms
- Your home is in a good state of repair
- You or anyone to be insured have not had more than one Buildings claim in the past 4 years
- You or anyone to be insured have not had more than one Contents claim in the past 4 years
- You or anyone to be insured have not had a theft claim in the last 4 years
- Your home does not have a history of flood or subsidence

Please answer all questions accurately, as incorrect information may invalidate your insurance should you take out a policy.
In order to assess the terms of the insurance contract or administer claims that arise, the insurer may need to collect data that the Data Protection Act defines as sensitive (such as medical history or criminal convictions). By proceeding with this application you will signify your consent to such information being processed by the insurer or its agents.

Who regulates us?
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is the independent watchdog that regulates financial services, including insurance. We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority and are permitted to provide insurance products, sell these to you and service your insurance needs. We are registered with the Financial Services Authority as: London and Edinburgh Insurance Company Limited, 8 Surrey Street, Norwich, NR1 3NG.

What to do if you have a complaint?
We hope that you will be very happy with the service that we provide. However, if for any reason you are unhappy with it, we would like to hear from you.
In the first instance, please telephone us on 0800 404 6356. London and Edinburgh Insurance Company Limited is covered by the Financial Ombudsman Scheme for complaints from private individuals, certain small businesses, charities and trusts. If you have complained to us and we have been unable to resolve your complaint, you may be entitled to refer it to this independent body. Following the complaints procedure does not affect your right to take legal action. Further details of our complaints procedure can be found in your insurance booklet, or may be obtained from your usual RAC Direct Insurance contact.
Peace of mind
Our obligations are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). If we were unable to meet our obligations, you could be entitled to compensation from this scheme, depending on the type of insurance and the circumstances at the time.
