RAC top tips for festival goers
- Give your vehicle a ‘once over’ before you set off. Check your tyres aren’t damaged and are the right pressure, check your lights are clean and working and your water and oil are topped up
- Avoid running too many gadgets such as i-pods and DVD players through the car as these can often drain the battery and leave revellers stranded
- Don't just load up with alcohol for the weekend! Take plenty of water with you to keep you hydrated as conditions may be hot and traffic slow
- If you're planning on partying hard on the final night of festivities allow plenty of time before getting behind the wheel of your car the next morning. Ideally agree a designated driver or someone to pick you up
- Don't overload your car with people or belongings. Make sure seatbelts are used and avoid storing objects on the rear parcel shelf
- Spend time planning your route. Visit the festival website for directions and advice and RAC’s routeplanner at www.rac.co.uk/route-planner/
- Tune in to your local radio station for regular traffic updates or dial 64644 from your mobile for live RAC traffic alerts
- Avoid depending too heavily on Sat-Navs as these don't take into account road closures and diversions
- Pay close attention to event information signs
- Make sure your car is roadworthy before travelling and sort out any problems which occur en-route as soon as possible to avoid any problems on departure
- Remember where you've parked the car! Make a note of nearby reference points to avoid any confusion when departing
- Make sure you have some bin bags in the car to store muddy equipment
- Ensure personal valuables including car keys are stored in property lock ups available at the site. If you do lose your keys, festivals often have a locksmith on hand
- If you do breakdown and need assistance call RAC on 0800 096 0745
