OAP safe after driving on railway

An 85-year-old motorist drove down a high-speed railway line in Hampshire for 80 yards before her car came to a halt.

The driver, who had a 20-year-old man in the car, turned on to the main line running between Bournemouth and London Waterloo, driving towards Brockenhurst station in the New Forest.

Such incidents are rare but are a shocking reminder of the necessity of ensuring the best possible support in motoring, especially through a good car insurance deal.

British Transport Police said the driver, who took a wrong turn at a level crossing, and the man were treated for shock but no injuries were reported and recovery vehicles removed the car.

Paramedics from the South Central Ambulance Service attended the scene along with BTP and Hampshire Police. The incident disrupted rail services in the area and bus services were introduced to replace the trains involved.
