Asda drops petrol prices at pumps

Asda has announced a cut in the price for petrol at its pumps

A supermarket chain has cut petrol prices by up to 2p per litre.

The move by Asda will bring some relief to motorists who in the economic gloom are trying to find the best deals on motoring costs such as fuel, car insurance and breakdown cover.

Asda, which said it was reacting to the wholesale fuel prices drop, announced that drivers filling up at its pumps would pay maximums of 130.7p a litre for petrol and 135.7p a litre for diesel.

The reductions follow rival superstore Tesco's price cutting on 3,000 products as part of a £500 million campaign.

The petrol trading director for Asda, Andy Peake, said the company knows petrol prices matter to customers so it aims to be the first to pass on cuts in the cost of crude.

"That's again what we're doing today," he said.
