Losing car keys 'can be costly'

Motorists who have lost their car keys may find it expensive to get a replacement, a new poll by Which? magazine has found.

Over £200 may be required to replace lost keys, according to the survey.

The Mercedes-Benz S-class topped the list of vehicles with the most costly replacement keys, at £235, followed by the Mercedes-Benz C-class, at £231.

On the other hand, replacement keys for the Vauxhall Corsa were found to be the least expensive, with owners being charged £127.

Owners of the Volkswagen Touareg are charged £226 for a new key, while the key replacement fee for the Audi A4 is £224 and the Nissan 370Z is £212.

With motorists already struggling under soaring car insurance costs, a lost car key could add to their financial worries.

A motorist posted on Which? website: "Keys cost a king's ransom but car theft has been cut dramatically."
