Brawn promises to tough F1 fight

Ross Brawn says his Mercedes GP team will fight "tooth and claw and nail" this Formula One season.

The motor racing boss, who has received an OBE from the Queen, expects a tough contest as he attempts to repeat last year's success with the Brawn GP team which won both the drivers' and constructors' titles.

Brawn is now the team principal of Mercedes GP and gearing up for the first grand prix of the season at Bahrain on Sunday.

The 55-year-old was at the Buckingham Palace to collect his OBE for his outstanding contribution to motor sports. In a career spanning more than 30 years, he has had several notable achievements.

He is credited with masterminding Michael Schumacher's seven world titles as technical director for racing teams Benetton and Ferrari.

Schumacher has joined him again at Mercedes this season, but Brawn remains cautious about the team's prospects for 2010.

Speaking after the ceremony, he said: "Sometimes you go during the winter and you see you've got a strong car and feel more comfortable, but you're always anxious about whether someone else has made more progress or whether you've underestimated the opposition.

"Until Sunday in Bahrain, I won't honestly know, but I think we're OK.

"It will be tooth and claw and nail and everything this year - it's going to be a very, very tough championship."
