Premier League footballer Steven Pienaar has been charged with drink driving and failing to comply with a traffic signal.
The Everton midfielder, who signed for the club in 2007, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning in Liverpool, Merseyside Police said.
The news comes days after the South Africa international played in Everton's 3-1 victory over Premiership champions Manchester United at Goodison Park.
A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a 27-year-old man has been charged with drink driving and failure to comply with a traffic sign.
"He was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and charged later that day. Steven Pienaar from Woolton will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates' Court on March 9, 2010."
Everton Football Club declined to comment on the matter.
