Darren Day admits drink-driving

Singer and actor Darren Day has pleaded guilty to drink-drinking and failing to stop after an accident in Edinburgh's West End last year.

Police recorded 58 microgrammes of alcohol in the 41-year-old's breath on December 18, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court prosecutors accepted Day's pleas of not guilty of driving without due care and attention, as well as dropping charges of failing to report the accident and failing to co-operate with a preliminary breath test.

However, he will go on trial at the court next month accused of possessing a kubotan, a type of offensive weapon that resembles a short stick attached to a keyring.

Sentencing for the drink-drinking and failing to stop charges will also take place at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in February, along with a motion to forfeit his car.

Until his sentencing and hearing are over, Day has been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence by Sheriff James Scott.
