A study by a use- car website has shown that people picking the wrong colour car lose money when trying to sell the vehicle.
The warning to avoid colours such as orange and pink was among a list of Carsite.co.uk tips on how to make sure your car holds its value when you sell it on.
The list came after the website conducted a study into which factors had the biggest sway on the price of a used car.
Behind colour choice, the study found that cracked windscreens and body dents and scratches could also knock pounds of a car's value.
Alistair Jeff of Carsite.co.uk said: "A well-maintained car is the best way to get a good resell valuation and fill your buyer with confidence. Keeping your car clean with an up-to-date service book and selling with a long MOT are simple, but rewarding steps to achieving this."
