About RAC Traffic and RAC Traffic Plus

We have developed RAC Traffic and RAC Traffic Plus, mobile applications available on the iPhone and Android phone platforms, which take the most up-to-date traffic data available from all areas of the UK and display it on an interactive map. This is the most comprehensive information available and is provided not only from the various traffic and road agencies, but also from vehicle data which is updated every 5 minutes.

How they work

The applications have been designed to be intuitive and easy to use, with simple coloured dots on the map that instantly show the severity of any incidents. A tap on an incident marker brings up a text description of the incident.

If we know the start and end point of the incident, they are shown on the map to help you avoid the whole area. Speed and delay information is also shown so that you can easily decide whether or not to change your route. The severity information gives a simple recognition of the problem ahead and shows the actual position of the incident on the map.

Text information on the incidents can also be seen using the 'incidents' button. This shows a complete list which can be ordered by region, or by those incidents nearest to you.

What's new

RAC Traffic and RAC Traffic Plus have received fantastic reviews and feedback from both the iPhone and Android communities - a big 'thank you' to everyone who has responded.

This feedback has allowed us to continually improve the applications.

RAC Traffic

Version 2.5 offers GPS support, along with the long-awaited planned incidents and roadworks functionality.

The app now has a choice of speed & delay data or planned incidents and roadworks.  With over 600 planned roadworks in place throughout the country at any one time, this will help you identify those hold-ups both before and during a journey.

This new version has been designed to bring you the most comprehensive traffic information, while keeping the speed of download to a minimum.

RAC Traffic Plus

RAC Traffic Plus takes the most up-to-date traffic data available from all areas of the UK and displays it on an interactive map. In addition to the existing free RAC Traffic mobile application, RAC Traffic Plus allows a route to be planned and the traffic is overlaid on this planned route. While this is not meant to be a sat nav solution, it does provide a very useful traffic solution with route planner functionality.

Q: Will you support any other platforms in addition to iOS and Android?
A: We are still assessing the level of demand for the app on other phone platforms. In the meantime, you can check for roadworks and road incidents in your area on RAC mobile website - just point your mobile browser to http://www.rac.mobi
