Hello, my name is Crackers Patel and I'm an RAC Patrol. My specialist subject today is "wheel changes". And no, you haven't just logged on to an online version of Mastermind, but since people are always asking me for advice on this simple task, I thought it would be worthwhile telling it like it is from the frontline - or roadside rather...
Hello, my name is Crackers Patel and I'm an RAC Patrol. My specialist subject today is "wheel changes". And no, you haven't just logged on to an online version of Mastermind, but since people are always asking me for advice on this simple task, I thought it would be worthwhile telling it like it is from the frontline - or roadside rather... and also giving you a few tips on how you can help me help you!
Believe it or not, this easy task becomes almost impossible when people don't carry a spare tyre or the wheel-locking device in their car. So please make sure you have a spare tyre that we can use - not a bald one or one that has a deep cut in it or even the wrong one for the car. And keep your wheel-locking device in the car too - not in the kitchen drawer at home or in the garage with the rest of your car maintenance kit. I want to get you back on the road as quickly as possible. So, when you buy that secondhand car, make sure you have the correct spare tyre and the wheel-locking device, please! People often ask if I mind changing their wheels. Of course I don't mind. I really do love helping people, even after 24 years as a patrol - but it helps when you have the right kit!

A lot of new cars come with the space saver kit which inflates and seals a puncture. Might not always have a spare tyre on newer cars.

Is it acceptable to buy just two winter tyres for the driven wheels as these tyres are expensive but effective
