Going on a journey - Travelling with kids
The first time you should hear 'Are we nearly there yet?' is when you're nearly there. So to help pass time in the car, we've put together some game ideas. Just print them out before your journey. And remember not to distract the driver!
All the games are also available as a single download here.
Straight face
If you can only answer everyone's questions with a silly phrase like 'big brown pants' how long can you keep a straight face?
Guess the celebrity
Pretend you're a famous person. Past or present. Now everyone has to ask you questions to guess who you are.
Back-seat bingo
Everyone gets a bingo sheet with images of things you might see on your journey. First one to spot them all wins.
Car snooker
How many colours can you pot before your time runs out? Spot as many coloured cars as you can - but in the right order.
Alphabet challenge
Pick a theme and starting with 'a', take it in turns to say a word beginning with that letter. Sounds easy but wait till you get to 'q'.
Car pool
You know how it goes - pot all seven balls in one colour, then the black. Just swap the balls for cars. But if the other player spots a white car, you hand over the cue.
Animal, vegetable or mineral?
Think of an object that falls into one of these categories. Everyone has to ask you questions to help them guess what it is. It's a chemistry lesson disguised as fun.
Puppet roadshow
Give out the cut-out hand puppets when you get in the car. You have until the next rest stop to think of a story. When the engine stops it's show time.
Nature trail
The Nature Trail you can do without getting your feet dirty. Keep it in the car and tick what you see every time you get in the car.
Easy games ideas
A quick hit list of simple game ideas for a range of ages. Keep it in the car for long journeys or for emergency tantrum distractions.
