Can I cancel my car insurance policy?

If you choose to cancel your policy within 14 days of taking it out, we will charge you an arrangement fee of £25, plus time on cover unless you have made a total loss claim in which case all outstanding payments will become due and no refund will be given. If you cancel after 14 days we will charge a £55 cancellation fee.

Can I manage my policy (view, amend, renew and claim) online?

You can now do the following with your RAC Car Insurance policy online:

  • Access your policy online 24-7
  • View, download and print your policy documents
  • Change your payment details
  • Make a payment

Simply register with the RAC Car Insurance Self Service Centre to get started. Don't forget to bookmark the link.

To make any other changes to your policy, please call 0844 891 0321*.

What is legal cover?

Legal cover pays towards the costs incurred if you are faced with a motoring prosecution or towards the pursuit of your, your passengers or authorised driver's case following an accident. Legal assistance is also available to recover any uninsured losses, such as your policy excess, medical fees or damages for injury after a motor accident.

What is included in RAC Car Insurance Plus?

In addition to what's already included in our great value comprehensive RAC Car Insurance, RAC Car Insurance Plus includes:

  • Help with onward transport home after an accident
  • 3-year guarantee on approved claim repairs
  • Raised amount of cover for personal belongings, medical expenses and non-manufactuer fitted audio equipment
  • Foreign use - comprehensive cover in the EU for up to 60 days per trip

Where has the 'My Policy' section gone?

The 'My Policy' section was removed as part of an update to our Car Insurance product range which now searches from a range of insurance providers.

If you previously used this service and would like to make any changes to your existing policy beginning with letters 'RCR', please phone 0844 891 0321*.

Can you explain about the courtesy car benefit included in my comprehensive policy?

The courtesy car is offered in the event of a claim.  It is always a Class A car, this is a 1 litre size engine like a Kia.

It is offered by the garage as part of the repair.  The car will usually be available from when the garage books in your car, however, this is subject to availability. 

How long you have the car is also dependent on the garages terms and conditions - they all have different guidelines so we cannot specify this. All garages used are part of the RAC approved vehicle repair network.

If you require a like-for-like guaranteed hire car for the duration of repairs to your car following a non-fault accident (and 48 hour emergency vehicle hire) you should look at adding Motor Legal Protection to your policy.

Do all RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance policies now include a courtesy car as standard?

Yes, a courtesy car is available as standard (subject to terms and conditions)* on all RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance policies. If you are an existing RAC Comprehensive policy holder and don't have the courtesy car feature, this will be added at your next renewal.

* A courtesy car will be provided in the event of a claim as long as you use one of our approved repairers. Courtesy cars are subject to availability and the supplying garage's terms and conditions.

Will I lose my no-claims discount if the accident wasn't my fault?

Your no-claims discount won't be affected if you are shown to be not at fault and we can recover the costs from the other person's insurance.
