I have an X reg Polo and recently the radio/tape deck has started to develop a fault. It works ok and then all of a sudden there is a loud pop/bang and the speakers stop working. The radio also often switches to tape mode although there is no tape in it. I think it may be a fault in the wiring of the speakers which maybe shorting out. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

The most likely cause is the radio is faulty. You can get a cheap new radio/CD/MP3 player from ALDI or LIDL when they have them on offer.
