Default Modification discovered after taking out insurance

    Hi

What happens if you discover that an interior cosmetic modification had actually been made to second hand vehicle (by a previous owner) after taking out insurance? What is the procedure?

    Thanks

Welcome to the site CT, it all depends if the modification changes the vehicles performance, but if, as you say, it's an internal cosmetic one, I can't see that happening. All the same, it would be better to let your insurance company know about it, good luck.

Can you give more details about the modification, please? Is it something like carpet or mats or seat covers, perhaps?

My insurer put my premium up when I fitted an aftermarket stereo. So you may have to declare interior mods depending on your insurer.

Interior or cosmetic mods can affect the premium, as the insurer may consider they make the car more attractive to thieves. A few years ago, someone reported that he had been penalised for sticking a GTI badge on his diesel Golf.
