Which is best route from Wrexham to Beaconsfield please?
In a few weeks time I will need to travel from Wrexham to Beaconsfield (M40).
Date of travel will be 20th July, will the school holidays have started on that date?
I have made this trip previously, but there are so many alternative routes through the midlands. There are frequent hold-ups with accidents and road works.
Can anyone please suggest their preferred route.
Here is the route that I am thinking of at the moment: Wrexham to A483 Southbound, A5, M54, M6 South, then join M5, Exit M5 at Junction 4A onto M42, then take M40 all the way to Beaconsfield.
20th July is a Saturday. The M56/M6 and M6/M5 junctions 'can' be very congested due to holidaymakers, and this will be the first day of the school holidays in many places.
I would take the A41 past Newport and turn East on the A5. Stay on the A5 to The M6 and then take the M6 Toll to link up with the M42 and then the M40. The toll is £4.80 on a Saturday and I think it would be money well spent.
With luck and a following wind, the trip should take about three hours. If you need a stop en route, I suggest Warwick Services, the first you come to on the M40.
With regard to using the M40, you may do better to come off at J3 and run down the A40 into Beaconsfield, as there are roadworks causing congestion if you approach from J2.
