    Default Towing an automatic car

I have an automatic car, as far as I can see RAC patrols don't routinely carry regular recovery equipment, just a towbar. Does that mean they won't actually be able to recover my vehicle if I break down?

They won't normally tow an automatic, it can wreck your gearbox.
A lot of RAC patrols now have a "foldout" 2 wheel trolly affair, that comes out of the back of the van, your front wheels go into this, off the floor, and away you go (providing you're not also rear wheel drive!)

Been there, after a 2- 10pm shift in the dead of winter. Thanks go to the RAC patrol

Uhm, well, I may be just a little bit rear-wheel drive... Can they not put the rear wheels on the trolley?

Not really, I think you'd be a "full lift"

most vans have an RDT rapid deployment trailer

a front wheel auto we can tow no probs

some rear wheels we can tow also, just do a rear lift

most autos are restricted to a 10 mile straight bar tow to get off mway or somethin
