Renault Clio electrical fault

I have aproblem with the Renault Clio i just bought. it has an itermittent faultwhich starts with clicking noise coming from glove box and headlights flickering on and off. sometimes indicators go briefly then come back then it sometimes cuts out. Will retstart when i turn ignition again. windscreen wipers seem to be affected too.sometimes they work then go but do come back again. what could it be?. It's a 2003 plATE CLIO DYNAMIQUE 16 VALVE. 1149 ENGINE.. hoping it's something simple to fix and not something costly

These symptoms are typical of a faulty BSI unit. However, It is worth checking the multiplugs connecting to it are all secure and clean first.

I'm not very technical. What is a Bsi Unit and is it costly to replace?

It is an electronic unit that controls Lights, Windows, Wipers etc. Check for wiring faults first, If it is the BSI unit cheapest option is to have it repaired by a specialist such as BBA-Reman.

If you bought it from a dealer take it back it has a six months warranty (This a legal requirement).

BSI means body system interface. It is a small computer that links all the electrics and they do fail. It is in effect the fuse box with the circuits underneath inside it. I think a new one costs around £200 but it has to be programmed to your car if you were to get one.

As Wagolynn says, the dealer (if you bought privately then you are struggling here) must repair your car for the first 6 months whatever he might say (Sale of Goods Act)
