    my son was sold a car which was a cat d write off is this illegal if he was not told at the time of sale!

    A Cat D write-off is really negligible. It means that there were other aspects which made it beyond economical repair. Eg, cost of replacement hire car, storage or any one of other causes.

    Think it is now under the new consumer laws. Trade and private sellers must now disclose this.

    But you can use HPI or the AA or any number of sites that will do a check for you before you buy. Text Check only costs around 4.50 so no excuse really.
