If you’ve been watching Channel 5, then you may have noticed a trailer for a special two-part documentary starring our own heroes of the road.
While much of the country has so far experienced a mild winter, Winter Road Rescue follows snowplough drivers from the Highland Council and four of our Patrols to show those who work 24/7 to make sure the UK doesn’t grind to a halt when winter weather hits.
Shot over three months, the documentary sees snowplough teams battle icy blizzards in the Highlands, while RAC Patrols fight snow, gale force winds and treacherous conditions to reach stranded drivers desperate for our help.
The dramatic scenes include one RAC Patrol who is sent to rescue a woman and her elderly mother who’ve got stuck in the snow on an isolated moor. But as he finds out to his cost, helping his customers out is one thing; getting his own van out of heavy snow is a little more difficult!
In another nail-biting scene, one Patrol helps a delivery van on its way to the pub with a crucial and much appreciated Christmas delivery: beer!
The programme airs on Channel 5 at 9pm on Thursday 2 and 9 February – so make sure you tune in and don’t miss out
