Website gives public crash data

A new website which allows the public to search road traffic crash data since 2005 has been launched.

Details of crashes which were reported to the police can be accessed with the help of a searchable map.

After searching by area and noting the date and seriousness of crashes, users can then download detailed collision reports.

Members of the public, local residents, transport professionals and parish councils will, for the first time ever, be able to comprehensively access this information.

The Crash Map follows 'Crime Map' - a website that details criminal activity in specific areas. The site showed the public has a thirst for official data.

Crash data has been compiled by road safety professionals, to provide a similar level of access to information.
