Details of Volkswagen's new Golf model have been released revealing an impressive top speed of 138mph.
Using 167bhp and a 2.0-litre engine, the diesel Golf GTD will reach 62mph from zero in just 8.1 seconds.
Volkswagen has said the car will be available with either a six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch transmission and prices will start at £21,850.
Despite the hefty price tag Volkswagen say drivers will be able to get up to 640 miles out of a single tank of fuel or 53.3mpg on the combined cycle, and environmentalists will be pleased with the news that it produces just 139 g/km of CO2 emissions.
Not only will the car drive differently, but its exterior will include a number of modifications, including a front bumper from the petrol hot-hatch GTI model, chrome work around the grille and 17-inch black alloys.
The new Golf diesel hot-hatch interior will also benefit from new features with a flat-bottomed steering wheel, leather gear lever and a standard tartan interior.
Orders for the Golf GTD start on June 22.
