Volkswagen (VW) has unveiled the third incarnation of the Beetle, sporting a flatter roof and narrowed windows, aimed at increasing the car's appeal to male drivers.
The redesign also features a less bulbous shape and a sharp crease along the side.
It is the first redesign of the Bug since the German carmaker relaunched its best-known model in 1998 as the New Beetle.
VW said it plans to triple sales of cars and trucks in the US in the next 10 years.
However, the latest redesign of the Beetle could annoy motorists who are fond of the car's curves and perky attitude.
It will also face tough competition in the US small-car market.
