Volkswagen has the Power to impress

GTI fans were able to get up close and personal with the Amarok Power-Pickup for the first time when it was unveiled by Volkswagen's commercial arm at this year's Lake Wšrthersee meet.

Volkswagen always turns up in force to the GTI event in Austria and the Power-Pickup was a star attraction. Based on a single cab Amarok, it is moving workshop capable of carrying tools, parts and race equipment, but it is a racer in itself. Its 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine generates 268bhp of power and 443lb.ft of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 in just 7.9 seconds.

Abreakdown of the rest of the Power-Pickup's specifications reveals that it has eight-speed automatic and permanent 4Motion four-wheel drive transmissions, wheel arches wide enough for 22-inch alloys, suspension down to 80mm, chrome-surrounded bi-xenon headlamps, a chrome grill and larger and lower air intake.

Those trailing behind in its wake will see a carbon fibre diffuser, twin exhausts, tinted rear lights and decals in its colour theme of black, red and white. The colour coding is matched inside on the doors, plush Nubuck leather sports seats and a dashboard that houses the eight-inch touchscreen of the Power-Pickup's information and entertainment system. The sound is provided by a 500-watt subwoofer.
