Villa player faces crash charges

Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan has been charged with several driving offences after a collision on the M1 near Watnall.

Bannan, a Scotland international dubbed the Scottish Cesc Fabregas, was charged with driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop after a road accident, driving a motor vehicle without a licence and driving without due care and attention.

The case highlights the dangerous impact of traffic collisions on the future costs ofcar insurance premiums for the motorists concerned.

The 21-year-old, from Sutton Coldfield, was bailed to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on November 25. The charges concerned a single vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway at around 5.30am on Sunday October 23.

A man aged 20 who was arrested and bailed over the same incident will not face charges, said police.
