The Government will establish separate stops for trucks on the motorway network, roads minister Mike Penning has announced.
Mr Penning said the Government is introducing change to the current policy, which did not permit trucks to use the facility of service areas.
The new proposal has received strong support from the haulage industry for the development of truck stops.
Measures to cut down on regulations, enable healthy competition and enhance the quality of service areas are being considered, the minister said.
He added: "My decision will create an environment that encourages the development of roadside rest facilities on motorways that cater specifically for the needs of the haulage industry.
"This will improve working conditions for heavy goods vehicle drivers and support the Government's commitment to improving road safety."
